JOB DESCRIPTION – SPYF MOLENDINAR CAFE ASSISTANT 

 

Job title: SPYF Molendinar Cafe Assistant

Hours: 20 hours per week

Sessional: Flexible including evenings and weekends

Location: SPYF Molendinar Community Centre, Blackhill, Glasgow

Reports to: SPYF Community Centre Manager.

Salary: £19838 – £21,295 pro rata per annum / £11.44 per hour

 

About the Organisation

St Paul’s Youth Forum aims to alleviate the worst effects of poverty in the Blackhill/ Provanmill area of Glasgow through our programmes focusing on Eating, Education, Exercise and Empowerment. We are part of the People Make Glasgow Communities, working in partnership with the City Council and Glasgow Life to reopen our local Community Centre.

 

Purpose of the Role

At SPYF, food has long been at the core of many of our programmes and we are hugely excited for the potential of the Molendinar Community Centre Cafe (Mollies Diner) this year.

The Molendinar Cafe Assistant will work alongside the Cafe Manager at SPYF Molendinar Community Centre, providing a vital service for the local community. 

A key purpose of the cafe will be to provide a healthy meal for anyone in need, alongside other menu options.

Working closely with staff, Trustees, the local authority, funders and external commercial organisations, the Molendinar Cafe Assistant will ensure that a welcoming space operates for the benefit of, not only young people and local residents, but people throughout Glasgow.

Thanks to funding from Glasgow City Council’s Place Fund, this post is funded for 1 year with a view to extend this subject to further funding.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Community and Partnership

  • Work with local people to identify menu suggestions eg. through surveys, questionnaires and other feedback

  • Manage volunteers, including workload

  • Help train volunteers

  • Observe and promote equal opportunities, customer care, and equality and diversity policies and procedures, including those related to child protection and vulnerable persons

  • Carry out various marketing and administration duties, including social media posts 

  • Take part in events and celebrations which acknowledge the successes along the road to achieving long-term outcomes for Blackhill and the local area


           Other Duties 

  • Effectively communicate and build working relationships with Centre users, staff, volunteers, and trustees 

  • Undertake relevant training when necessary

  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the status of the post as directed by the SPYF Community Centre Manager


         General Conduct 

  • Punctuality and being ‘on call’ to a reasonable level is essential

  • Polite, approachable, and helpful

  • Show enthusiasm and promote positivity and inclusivity

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding Centre business, users, and volunteers 


Desirable experience skills and qualifications

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate 

  • Previous catering experience 

  • Worked in a fast-paced customer-facing environment
